With New Coach at the Helm, Tampa Bay Looking for a Fresh Start in 2019 Season
After consecutive seasons with just five victories, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just had seen enough of Head Coach Dirk Koetter, who you could say was a complete failure in his three-year tenure compiling an unimpressive 19-29 dossier with a team that had huge expectations when the coach was introduced back in 2016. Enter former Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Bruce Arians, who after a year off into retirement decided that the whole retreat thing was overrated. Arians, a self-proclaimed quarterback whisperer having worked with the likes of Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck and more recently Carson Palmer, will have the monumental task to steer his new found protégé and former No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston to a righteous path. This is most likely Winston’s last chance to prove himself and Arians could attest to be the Florida State product’s ultimate savior.

There was some question as to whether or not Winston would return to the Buccaneers in 2019, but the team has decided to give him one last shot. Winston has gotten into trouble off the field and played inconsistently on it, so the Buccaneers have grown tired of his frolics, and deservedly so. This is it for Winston especially with the ton of weapons that will be at his disposal this season. He'll be able to throw to a duo of dynamic wide receivers and a couple of talented tight ends. The first group is comprised of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Evans is one of the most compelling receivers in the NFL, while Godwin seems to be on the verge of breaking out with a huge season. Godwin caught 59 passes for 842 yards and seven touchdowns last year. He was usually blocked from more opportunities by DeSean Jackson and Adam Humphries, but both players have gone on to greener pastures.
It'll now be for Godwin to prove is worth across from Evans. Meanwhile, O.J. Howard has the talent to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL. The Alabama alum hauled in 34 catches for 565 yards in just 10 games in his second season. Cameron Brate will serve as a great secondary target if Howard were to get hurt again. The team had a bottom-10 rush offense in efficiency last year, yet the front office did nothing to rectify it. Perhaps the team is a strong believer in Ronald Jones. The 2018 second-round pick was a huge bust last year, but has plenty of talent and could potentially live up to the tag. If not, it'll be up to Peyton Barber's ponderous style yet again. The offensive line has some holes, particularly on the right side. Tampa Bay moved right guard Caleb Benenoch to right tackle to back up Demar Dotson, who is entering his 11th season. It's an area they also didn't address in the draft.
While the Buccaneers have concerns with their offensive line and running game, as well as with Winston, their greatest concern this offseason had to be upgrading the defense, which was dead last in efficiency last year, ranking 30th against the pass and 31st versus the run. The Buccaneers used their No. 5 overall pick on linebacker Devin White. The LSU product is perfect fit as a do-it-all defensive leader that Tampa Bay has been lacking for quite some time. Tampa Bay signed Ndamukong Suh who, while is no longer the dominant force he once was, still played very well for the Rams last year. Suh will start along with 2018 first-rounder Vita Vea, a monstrous, run-stuffing nose tackle, and Beau Allen, who didn't quite live up to expectations as a free-agent signing last offseason. Tampa spent two early draft picks on cornerbacks Sean Bunting and Jamel Dean, and it is entirely possible one of them will be able to provide a big boost.

The Bottom Line:
Arians is a definite upgrade as Head Coach and his track record to turn around teams from moribund to contenders speaks volume but this Tampa squad may need some time to rebuild. While we must believe Winston will improve under Arians’ guidance, there are so many problematic areas for Tampa Bay that a winning season would be a absolute feat. To make matters worse, the Buccaneers were dealt an absolutely horrible early schedule. In Week 4, they begin a stretch of games at the Rams and New Orleans before crossing the Atlantic to London to play the Panthers than at Tennessee before flying to the West Coast to play Seattle. Ouch!

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off with the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, February 7 in NFL Super Bowl LV action from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, FL.
Kansas City finished off the regular season at 14-2 overall. The Chiefs dispatched the Browns and Bills on their way to the championship matchup. As for Tampa Bay, they went 11-5 this year, taking out Washington, New Orleans and Green Bay to earn a trip to the Super Bowl. Check back all season long for free NFL picks at Sports Chat Place.
Kansas City had a nice run in the regular season, winning four straight before a Week 5 loss to Las Vegas, then another 10 straight before a Week 17 loss to the Chargers. The Chiefs took out Cleveland in the Divisional Round 22-17, then dispatched Buffalo in the AFC Championship 38-24 on January 24.
In the win over the Bills, Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes posted 325 yards with three touchdowns, and Darrel Williams had 52 yards and a TD on 13 carries. Tyreek Hill (nine catches; 172 yards) and Travis Kelce (13 catches; 118 yards; two TD) were the top Chiefs receivers.
Over on the Tampa Bay side, they had a strong regular season as well, finishing off with four straight wins. In the playoff this year, the Buccaneers ran through Washington 31-23 in the Wild Card, the Saints 30-20 in the Divisional Round, and the Packers 31-26 in the NFC Championship.
Las Vegas Raiders Vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Odds
In the victory over the Packers, Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady put up 280 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Leonard Fournette posted 55 yards and a TD, and Chris Godwin added 110 yards off five receptions.
The Chiefs are 4-1 ATS in their last five playoff games as a favorite and 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games after an ATS win. Kansas City is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 2-7 ATS in their last nine as a favorite.
Vegas Odds On Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is 4-0 ATS in their last four games as an underdog and 5-2 ATS versus a team with a winning record. The Bucs are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Tampa Bay here. All things considered, this should be a great Super Bowl matchup. The last time these teams met up was November 29, and the Chiefs recorded a 27-24 victory (leading 27-10 after three quarters). Mahomes (462 yards; 3 TDs) and Hill (13 catches; 269 yards; 3 TDs) dominated the KC scoring, and the teams put up a combined 960 yards of total offense. I think this will be a similar affair: a relatively higher-scoring game and a tight finish. Should be another good one, and I think the Bucs can eke into a cover.
